Maryland Auto Insurance: Understand Your Options Before You Quote

Maryland auto insurance should fit your actual situation

Shopping for auto insurance is about more than finding a premium you can live with. Two policies can have different liability limits, deductibles, rental provisions, and other important terms, even when the monthly cost looks similar.

Lion Insurance Group is an independent agency based in Baltimore. We help Maryland drivers organize their auto insurance needs, understand the questions that affect a quote, and consider markets available for their driving history, household, vehicle and requested coverage. Availability and price are determined by each carrier's underwriting and the agency's current market access.

Whether you're insuring a family SUV, adding a new driver, replacing a vehicle or shopping after a rate increase, a thoughtful comparison starts with the right information.

What does Maryland auto insurance have to include?

Maryland's minimum liability limits are commonly written 30/60/15: $30,000 bodily injury per person, $60,000 bodily injury per accident, and $15,000 property damage. Maryland also requires uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Personal injury protection (PIP) generally has a $2,500 minimum, with eligible waivers allowed under Maryland rules. These legal minimums should not be confused with recommendations for every household.

Higher limits may be worth discussing when you own a home, have savings to protect, regularly drive family members or want more protection from a serious liability claim. The right choice depends on your specific finances, risk and options available from the insurer.

What else should you compare?

  • Liability limits: Protection when you are legally responsible for injuries or property damage to others, subject to policy terms.
  • Comprehensive and collision: Optional physical damage coverages that may be required by a lender or lease. Check deductibles, exclusions and actual cash value implications.
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorists: Understand how your selections work when an at-fault motorist has insufficient insurance.
  • Rental reimbursement and roadside assistance: Useful optional benefits, but not every policy includes them automatically.
  • Drivers and vehicle use: Correctly list household drivers and explain commuting, business or delivery use to avoid coverage problems.

What if you have accidents, tickets or a lapse?

A prior claim, accident, violation or lapse can narrow your choices or change premiums. Do not hide relevant information when asking for pricing. The agency can discuss which available carriers may consider your risk, but no rate or approval is guaranteed. A currently valid policy should not be canceled until replacement coverage is confirmed effective in writing.

What information is needed for an auto insurance quote?

Your current declarations page if available; vehicles and VINs; regular drivers and dates of birth; garaging ZIP code; driving history; preferred limits and deductibles; and any lender or lease requirements. Do not send sensitive ID numbers through the general contact form. Use the website's approved detailed secure questionnaire where requested.

A quote request is not an insurance binder or proof of coverage. Final rates, approval, effective dates, and policy terms depend on the insurer's underwriting and written confirmation.
